Until recently, people could only load images to Google Maps. Videos, however, are far more trustworthy in validating social proof of the service and its patrons. Video reviews will be much harder to fake as well. Google video reviews will be held to the same standard as its usual review policies.
I would expect that businesses will also be able to use this feature to embed these video highlights on their website too…
How does this work? Simply go to Google Maps, search for and select a place in Google Maps (currently Android only), scroll down and tap “add a photo,” then tap the “Camera” icon and lastly, hold down the button to record (or pre-record), and then you can upload the video.
I have a gut feeling that businesses with video reviews will rank higher than businesses without them.
I can’t wait until this is released for Google Maps iPhone App. I will be testing it like crazy!
